nah!, I prefer a wristwatch rather than dig around in my pocket for the
modern version of the pocket watch a mobile or cell phone.

currently a chinese version of an eta 6497 in a black PVD coated
stainless steel case on a leather strap, power reserve around 52hours,
which is great if I forget to wind it one day

so no batteries
keeps good time
easy to read since the watch is 44mm in diameter
did I mention there are no stinking batteries :)

Your batteries stink?
What do you use -- eco-friendly dollops of cow dung that produce
enough methane to power your display?

Got a Dugena on my wrist right now, German brand with a Miyota
movement. Practical, no-nonsense, and if it breaks, who cares?

Plus, I have found it's more accurate than my Sunday-best Cartier
Santos.

well with some brands of batteries like varta I am quite sure that is
what they use in their batteries.

Good old 7A38(read: metal parts) Seiko chronograph. As i did in '84 when i
got it from my boss for finishing my apprenticeship.

I should probably change the battery soon before it upsets Daz's nostrils. ;-p

I'm not sure I would trust a watchmaker who doesn't have the
courage of his convictions. It'd be like a teetotaller winemaker
or a car mechanic who rids his bike to work....

C'mon, that conviction was overturned and i was relased a few years lat...
um... Hangon, you're talking about something else, right ? ;-)

Bah, no-one cares about that little episode with the sheep.
Could have happened to anyone, right?

An old Seiko I picked up at a flea market around 25 years ago but am still
fond of.
And I do ride my bike to work quite often! A Kawasaki Voyager, 1200 cc.

Mondaine automatic, ETA 2836-2. I had the crown replaced to make it easier
to set the time and wind it when I need to.

Tom
The crown seems to be a weak point with the Mondaine.
The dial design is pure genius (especially once your eyes start
to go, as my grandparents discovered), but my mother who wears
one daily is quite happy for it to be quartz because she finds
the crown too fiddly. On top of that, she's broken it off twice
now -- and she is not a builder or bareknuckle boxer.

The watchmaker who replaced the crown said he also installed a "2mm pipe".
Although I love watches I'm pretty much ignorant about the inner workings,
so I accepted this as a good thing.

Yup, that's what keeps breaking with my mother, too. It's a
design weakness. Don't let that detract from your enjoyment,
though -- it is as classic a Swiss watch design as you are likely
to find.

I wear mainly three different models:

- An Orient Deep for daily use
- A Tissot chrono for "formal dressing"
- A cheap digital casio when practising sports
