Cuckoo chimes out of sync.

My husband has altered our cuckoo clock by turning the hands back. (It is
German with two weights and a pendulum, not a battery powered one).

Now it chimes and cuckoos the wrong number of times.

How can I alter it back please?

After the minute hand has passed 12, move it backwards to about 10 mins
till, then forward passed 12. It should strike again. If it is not on
the correct hour, then move the hour hand and align it with the correct
hour.

Thank you. It is midnight now in New Zealand, so I will try this tomorrow
when my husband is around.

I'll hazzard a guess you're referring to the clock, with the above.

It is probably an older design with a counting wheel on the back of
the movement. Those things go out of whack when you upset the sequence
of the strikes.
The easiest way is to just move the hour hand onto the right hour, but
being plastic and quite easy to break i'd rather you didn't do that.
If you do try, get a good grip of the hour hand NOT at the tip, but
rather as close to the centre, with your thumb and pointing finger
firmly around the centre, if possible. Then just pull very slightly
and twist it carefully to the right hour. When you get near the right
hour, push it inwards to the clock with another slight twist to
tighten it back on.

If it doesn't budge or i've managed to scare you, the next best idea
may be to let it strike the hours and count how many it struck.
Then take the weights off the chain hooks.
Turn the hands onto that time.
Put the weights back on. (It may strike when you put the weights back,
if so, then do this again and set the hands an hour forward)

Once you have it striking the right hours, turn the hands forward
letting the clock strike each half and whole hours until you reach the
correct time.. Generally, you should never adjust clock hands
backwards, while most modern clocks have provision for that, some
don't and you can cause damage. Dock hubby at least 2 beers. :)

Thank you for your advice. The clock is at least 50 years old, so we have to
be careful with the hands. We'll try this idea with the weights when hubby
comes home. I note your suggestion about the beers!

Thanks, Geopelia

We've tried taking the weights off several times, and moving the hands
round, different every time, now we have got it striking six hours ahead or
behind. We'll just remember that and leave it, I think. The other cuckoo
clock, battery powered, cuckoos at the right time.
Hubby will be docked six beers!

Thanks for your help.
