hello,
i received a hones cuckoo clock as a gift and all was working perfectly
- until the clock struck 11. it started cuckoo-ing and never stopped
(and the door stays open). any ideas on how to remedy this? i took the
weights off and carefully took it off the wall to take a look in the
back - it seems like whatever the mechanism is that keeps the door open
is not resetting after the appropriate # of chimes.
thanks,
mike

Ugh, it's probably not a job you can do without removing the movement.
Although on some models the dial can be removed to gain access, but
you have to be careful doing that, the dial is quite brittle and it
needs to be pried off with a knife or something sharp like that, so a
slip could be aesthetically suicidal<g>.

Usually this occurs when the cam on the dial side of the movement,
which is responsible for counting off the rack and stopping the strike
at just the right time, moves out of position by a whisker.
It's a common thing with especially cuckoos, but other mantel clocks
too and a bewildering thing having to remove the movement for a simple
adjustment like this, but that's just how it is.
Explaining the actual adjustment will be hard without a hands-on
diagram, but if you're technically minded you should be able to work
it out.

thanks frank! i'll talk to the retailer and weigh my options. i''m
fairly handy and wouldn't mind tackling something like this, but i'd
really hate to mess it up...especially since it's brand new!
