So my wife got me this great watch for Christmas but the manual didn't
give specifics as to how to set the day of week for this model. I
unscrewed the locking crown to far and the crown has come off. I can't
seem to get it back in - it physically "plugs back into" the watch but
it won't stay in.

Citizen claims I have to send it to their service department and that
crowns are not covered by the warranty. Any help you can provide would
be greatly appreciated!

Did the crown separate from the stem, or did the crown and stem pull
out of the movement? In either case, it'll be an easy fix for a local
watchmaker. Are you sure Citizen won't fix this for free?

Thanks for the info.

Yes the stem with the crown attached pulled out from the movement. I am
close enough to Citizen that I can take the watch to them in Torrance
CA. I'd like to repair it myself if possible but if not am willing to
drive the 30minutes to Torrance. The service center operator said that
she didn't think the crown and stem repairs were covered under
warranty.

Any thoughts as to a repair cost?

Thanks for the link to the Citizen forum. I am awaiting approval and
I'll post my question there next.

don't muck about, just take to Citizen, you open the watch your
warrantee is invalid, you open the watch and you don't have the
equipment to do a pressure test, the watch leaks, you take it to them,
they can tell someone has opened the watch your warrantee is invalid.

they cannot be expected to tell you over the phone the problem with
watch unless they see it, people do that to me all the time, try an get
a price for a repair which I don't do over the phone unless I see the job.

just ignore whatever was said to you, take the watch to them, show them
the problem and your warrantee/receipts and go from there, ok.

take it back to Citizen, I guess they are covering themselves because
crowns can be easily damaged by the user, but in your case it sounds
like the stem has unscrewed from the crown, if so that should be covered
by the warrantee because someone or the droid that fitted the crown on
either didn't screw it on tight enough or forgot the locktite.

they will have to open the case to refit the crown and stem, so they
should also do a pressure test, if you take it to someone else then you
will invalidate the warrantee.

so if in fact the stem has unscrewed from the crown it's their fault not
yours, so they have to fix it at no charge, if on the other hand you
broke the stem then its your fault and you pay the costs.

Your only choice is to return it to Citizen for repair.

You could also do the following:

Get two bricks. Place watch on one. Slam the other one down on top of
the first with all your might. You'll likely hear a muffled crash as
the watch is crushed flat.

Mighty satisfying feeling.
