I envisaged a house full of the restful sound of
a myriad of clocks all ticking together and chiming
merrily, but SWMBO has already complained about the
first and only Westminster Chime that I've repaired!

Goodness knows what will happen when the Synchronome
is restored and clunks away every 30 secs!

I think it takes maybe a few weeks at most to get so used to a chiming clock that you no longer hear it. If Mrs Gareth's Downstairs Computer is still griping after that, you'll have to move the clock. There are people who cannot tolerate the things, and they have a tendency to get up in the middle of the night and either turn the chimes off or stop the clock, or both. Sometimes they'll stuff things inside, or damage the pendulum's suspension spring on a grandfather clock. Nobody ever admits to doing it, either.

If you don't hear it, why have it?
