Discussion:
Zeitner watches - scam or worth their "discounted" price?

Hi,

I've recently looked at the zeitner.com website. They advertise watches
worth £700 for £115 or similar. I thought I'd research it on the
internet, and found a lot of "zeitner is a scam" messages - but nearly
all of them were from one man, "billjackson5". So, excluding his views,
can anyone tell me whether its a scam? It seems the website has been
around for over 4 years - and it hasn't been taken down. Surely that's
a positive sign? They advertise diamonds, mother-of-pearl fascias etc,
so if they were lying wouldn't they have been taken down?

Well, I don't know if they are a scam or not and I have never seen or
held any of their watches. I looked at their website with products
having MSRP's of $800.00 and then looked on Amazon and found the same
watches marked well under $200.00 If they sell on Ebay, those prices
will probably be lower than Amazon and an indication of the true retail
value.

I suspect that this company is may sell products that are comparable to
Invicta, Elysee, etc. The marketing ploy of offering huge discounts on
unrealistic prices is certainly similar. Chances are if you buy at
the Amazon price or lower you will get reasonable value for the money,
but don't expect an Oris or a Titoni.

Another Chinese watch with a Swiss sounding name.

These watches are not worth 700UKP, but they are worth somewhere in the
vicinity of 100 retail (meaning that they cost the vendor somewhere in the
vicinity of 50 to 70 UKP. So if you buy one for that price it won't be a
ripoff, just a more or less fair retail price for a Far East made watch with
a decent looking case. Somehow, this brand appears to be a brother brand to
"Klaus Kobec". There is no "legitimate" brand that sells for 80% off of
"list" - the inflated list is just a marketing gimmick, but a relatively
harmless one once you see thru it.

Personally, I'd say get a Seiko or a Tissot or something that is slightly
more "legit", but if the styling appeals to you greatly, get the Zeitner.

If you google groups for billjackson5 his lengthy post lists just about
every site related to watches on the internet and labels them all scams.

Potential buyers: do not try to find out and buy a bona fide Chinese,

otherwise, go for not so much more expensive genuine Japanese Brand, or
invest into a genuine reputed Swiss Watch Brand from recognised

That specific selle rhas been offering a lot of MA watches with its
full logo and we always suspected that it was one of TA's so many
aliases.

"The Hydra which lived in the swamps near to the ancient city of Lerna
in Argolis, was a terrifying monster, which had the body of a serpent
and many heads (the number of heads deviates from five up to one
hundred there are many versions but generally nine is accepted as
standard), of which one could never be harmed by any weapon, and if any
of the other heads were severed another would grow in its place (in
some versions two would grow). Also the stench from the Hydra's breath
was enough to kill man or beast (in other versions it was a deadly
venom). When it emerged from the swamp it would attack herds of cattle
and local villagers, devouring them with its numerous heads. It totally
terrorized the vicinity for many years. "

The Zeitner seems to be associated with the UK. A search of google
groups indicates that it is marketed there through a newspaper prize
giveaway. And it usually appears in ads with the Klaus Kobec line.

Or the Klaus Kobec $1100 for $279. Had a chance to see the lady's
Chrisma model with Roman digits and blued hands; Swiss quartz. I've seen
worse. A classic French design, legible, and women seems to like it.

I bought a Zeitner about ten odd years ago. It was a classy looking waterproof watch in the stlyle of a Tag heure. Cost me about a hundred quid. Fantasic watch. Went diving in it did DIY, car mechanics, really gave it a hard time. after about 3 years i broke the strap which was my fault so i sent the watch back with a letter asking for a quote to fix. Next thing i know the watch turned up fixed free of charge! I unfortunately lost that watch but my wife has a klaus Kobec which she has had 10 years, a couple of battery changes later still going strong. I would not pay £700 or anything but they are definately worth the money they are. I will buy another.

I have a zietner commando watch, I've had it since 1998 and it's been and still is a fantastic watch, and I've worn it most every day since I bought it,
It cost me £135 and it is still going strong and still looks good and only 4 battery changes in all the time I have had it, they are truly a good watch with Swiss movement you can't get much better than that , PS it also keeps good time, never have to adjust it,

Hi there,
I actually bought a Zeitner Chronograph for approx. £100 back in the early nineties! I have bought other watches since then, mainly Seikos, but I always come back to the Zeitner! It keeps such good time (within a second of the speaking clock each month) and I have never had a single problem. I don't know where they are or where made - it may be that manufacturers have changed over the years - I would love to know more if anyone knows as I would also like to purchase another. I can only speak for my 20 odd year old watch but I really cannot fault it and would recommend it to anyone!

I looked at this forum before purchasing the new Zeitner on wowcher I was almost put off but thought Ill get it, if i don't like it I could always send it back. I got it for my dad. He luvs it but that might be because its a prezzie lol. If he wants to leave it me when he pops his clogs I would be more than happy to have this watch so I am glad I didn't listen to this review. I did a bit more research and it seems that Zeitner was a great brand late 90s early 2000 and is big in AMerica. So just to make sure I called them and they told me that the brand has been purchashed by fashion brands online who have sevral brands like most companies nowadays and the new autodate limmited adition is there latest watch and are in the process of reviving the brand. So in my opinion for what its worth it is a very atractive automatic watch and for 150 quid you wont be dissapointed. Paul :-)

Hellooo,

My Zeitner was purchased about 14 years ago for around $170.00 USD. It is often mistaken for a Tag Heuer, a nice solid link bracelet and blue face waterproof to many fathoms, much deeper than I would dive. This has been a very strong watch, I've worn it hunting, fishing hiking, banged it up several times and still keeps good time. Other than a new battery every couple of years it has been indestructible and still looks great.....I would certainly buy another one.

My wife bought me a Zeitner chronograph for my birthday about 6 years ago. At the time I wasn't a watch wearer at all. Since then I wear this one daily, even after she has tried to replace it with a Kors and other brands. This one just fits me better and keeps great time. It's been durable while I tinker and has done well while I scuba dive too. Says it's good up to 10 atmospheres but the deepest it's been is 5. I have replaced the battery a couple of times but that kind of expected but I'd def buy another one.

As long as you take the watches at face value then they are good, reliable and nice looking watches. I have had one for years and it just keeps going, and gets quite a few comments. My main watches are a Breitling and an Omega but when I'm doing anything manual I always wear the Zeitner.
I broke it once and sent it in for repair, they charged me £20 to 'repair' it, but what came back was a brand new watch with my old strap on it, so that tells you the true value of them.
But like I say, take it for what it is and you won't go wrong. I would buy another one for sure.

I'd like to add that I have one of these watches and i would not hesitate to buy another one.Mine is a sports chronograph with 3 sub dials and stopwatch buttons.
The strap is polished stainless steel and
so is the case, the glass is made from sapphire crystal.basically it's beaut. I've had it for at least 15 years and I wear it to work every day and when i go out. Besides changing the battery when it drains, and the chronograph stopped working for now I've been well impressed. My wife says it's a lovely watch and lad's at work comment what make is that watch. Some of their model's bat way out the park for what you're paying.

I have never worked on one a Zeitner but have had the opportunity to hold several, all where purchased from discount websites. At the factory website I would call it a scam but for a quarter or less I think is a fair price. They feel well made and if weight is a measure of quality there not bad. Jason Croyle

I have one and it is Swiss. The ISA movement is 3 Jewels and stamped Swiss Made...and no indication of assembled in far East with Swiss parts. Most likely an older one....all stainless screwback and crown screws in as well. Inside the screw back case is stamped China but I have some newer Hamilton stainless watches that the cases are China. The Zeitner chrono I have is pilot style ...IWCish and a nice watch. I guess if you can get an older example they are decent watches...i would rate them with a good quartz Seiko chrono.
